NIMASA Essay Competition 2024: Win Up to N1.8 Million
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is organizing the World Maritime Day Essay Competition to commemorate the 2024 edition. The competition aims to raise awareness about the opportunities in the maritime sector and encourage Nigerian youths to pursue careers in it.
About NIMASA:
NIMASA is responsible for regulations related to Nigerian shipping, maritime labor, and coastal waters. The agency also undertakes inspections and provides search and rescue services.
About World Maritime Day:
World Maritime Day is celebrated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and its member states globally to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety, maritime security, marine environment, sea farers, and other specific aspects of IMO’s work.
Competition Details:
- Open to year 1 and 2 students of Nigerian tertiary institutions
- Essay topic: “Navigating the future: safety first!” in line with the theme of the 2024 World Maritime Day
- Word count: 1200 words (+ or – 10%)
- Double-spaced, MS word, font size 12
- Include name, telephone number, and email address
- Scan and attach proof of studentship (letters of admission and identity cards)
- Send essays to both [email protected] and [email protected]
- Plagiarism will not be accepted
- Essays that do not follow the guidelines will be disqualified
- Only successful participants will be contacted
Rewards:
- 1st place: N500,000 Education Grant, laptop, plaque, and publication in NIMASA’s magazine and website
- 2nd place: N350,000 Education Grant, laptop, and plaque
- 3rd place: N250,000 Education Grant, laptop, and plaque
- 7 Consolation Awards: N100,000 Education Grant each and a plaque
