Uppsala University scholarships are available each year for fee-paying international students who are applying for an international Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Uppsala University.
Some scholarships are specifically designated for students who are applying for one of Uppsala University’s Master’s programmes, while others are open for both Master’s and Bachelor’s applicants.
Some scholarships are open for all citizens of a country outside of the European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, while others are only open for citizens of certain countries.

The scholarships available for application may vary from year to year.
The list of citizenships that are eligible for the King Carl Gustaf Scholarship also varies from year to year. Before you submit your application(s), be sure that you read the information about each scholarship thoroughly and that you understand the conditions. You may apply for more than one scholarship, as long as you fulfil the eligibility criteria. You specify all the scholarships that you are applying for, in one scholarship application form.
The scholarships are only for on-campus programmes based in Uppsala or on Gotland, and for programmes mainly taught at Uppsala University. You can only be awarded a scholarship for programmes that you apply for at universityadmissions.se.
However, you cannot be awarded a scholarship for the Joint Nordic Master’s Programme in Environmental Law, Master’s programme in Turkic Studies, Master’s programme in Religion in Peace and Conflict, Master’s programme in Implementation, Transformative Learning and Sustainability or Master’s programme in Biology NABiS Nordic Master in Biodiversity and Systematics.
Scholarship Requirements:
To be considered for the scholarship, you must:
- You must be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
- You must demonstrate academic talent and show interest in being in an educational environment.
- You can only be awarded an Uppsala University Global Scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
- You must have applied for the Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
- You must meet the entry requirements for the Master’s programme you applied for. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.
Available Scholarships:
- Anders Wall’s Scholarship for Studies at Uppsala University
This scholarship will cover the full cost of tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University. It is for degree programmes that start on 28 August 2023 and are offered during the current admission round. The scholarships do not cover living expenses.
Level of study:
Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes
Eligibility criteria:
- You must be a citizen of Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Tunisia and Uganda.
- You must demonstrate academic talent and show interest in being in an educational environment.
- You can only be awarded an Anders Wall Scholarship for a degree programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
- You must have applied for the Bachelor’s or Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
- You must meet the entry requirements for the programme you applied to. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.
- The King Carl Gustaf Scholarships
The King Carl Gustaf Scholarship is aimed at students who live in unsafe and dangerous conditions in areas affected by conflict or natural disasters.
The scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University. It is for Master’s programmes that start on 28 August 2023 and are offered during the current admission round. The scholarships do not cover living expenses.

Master’s programmes
Eligibility criteria:
- You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Iraq, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria or Yemen.
- You must show why you are particularly vulnerable and therefore in need of the educational environment at Uppsala University, as well as that you have the academic talent required.
- You can only be awarded a King Carl Gustaf scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
- You must have applied for the Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
- You must meet the entry requirements for the programme you applied to. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.
Method of Application
In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must first submit an application for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Uppsala University at www.universityadmissions.se between 17 October 2022 and 16 January 2023.
Uppsala University’s programme must be ranked as your first priority of choice. The scholarship application period starts after this step.

To apply for our scholarships, you need to submit an online application form during the scholarship application period. Access to the application form will be available on the page during the scholarship application period from 17 January – 1 February 2023.
We will also review the supporting documents that you submit for your programme application at www.universityadmissions.se. Therefore, you do not need to submit any extra documents in your scholarship application form.
