The Patricia Eschen Prize for Poetry is sponsored by the Dennis Myner Trust which supports Morrab Library in its charitable work, continuing the legacy of former member Dennis Myner who was devoted to our library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural Patricia Eschen Prize for Poetry 2022 is now open for entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Requirements & Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2022 competition does not <\/strong>have a theme \u2013 poems can be on any subject that kindles your imagination, to a maximum line length of 40 lines for each poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The competition is open to international entries, entry is free and limited to one poem per individual. Poems must be written in the English language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entry Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018Morrab Library must receive poems entered for the Patricia Eschen prize for Poetry 2022 by Friday 30th September 2022 at 23:59pm (GMT).<\/li>
The Adult\u2019s competition is open to anyone aged 16 or over at the time of entering. The Children\u2019s competition is open to anyone under the age of 16 at the time of entering.<\/li>
International entries are welcome.<\/li>
The poem must be the entrant\u2019s original work and must not have been previously published, broadcasted or accepted for publication by a magazine (including online) and must not have been a winner in a previous competition.<\/li>
The entrant can submit ONE poem ONLY to the competition.<\/li>
The length of the entrant\u2019s poem must not exceed 40 lines.<\/li>
The poem must be in the English language.<\/li>
Poems can be submitted in ONE of three ways: via email to poetryprize@morrablibrary.org.uk ; OR posted to Poetry Competition, Morrab Library, Morrab Gardens, Penzance, TR18 4DA; OR dropped off in-person to the Morrab Library (aforementioned address). If emailing the entry, poems must be submitted in a Word document (.doc) or PDF (.pdf) file.<\/li>
Entries via email will receive a \u2018Confirmation of entry\u2019 email (please check Spam or Junk folders) but postal and in-person entries will not receive a receipt. Printed entries will not be returned, so please keep a copy.<\/li>
All entries are judged anonymously. The entrant\u2019s name must NOT appear in the poem or anywhere in the document name. The entrant must provide their contact details (name, email address and telephone number) in the body of the email when submitting their entry, OR include these details on a separate page if submitting a printed entry via post or in-person.<\/li>
Alterations CANNOT be made to poems once submitted.<\/li>
Copyright remains with the author, but The Myner Trust and Morrab Library reserve the right to have entries performed on the radio, TV, or stage, published on the internet, shared on social media, published in a book or used for publicity purposes at any stage in the future.<\/li>
The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into and the competition judges and staff of The Myner Trust and Morrab Library will NOT provide feedback on entries.<\/li>
Entries not complying with competition rules will be disqualified.<\/li>
The Dennis Myner Trust and Morrab Library reserve the right to change the judging panel without notice.<\/li>
The Dennis Myner Trust and Morrab Library reserve the right to withhold prizes if such an action is justified.<\/li>
No current employee or Trustee of The Dennis Myner Trust and Morrab Library is eligible to enter The Patricia Eschen Prize for Poetry 2022.<\/li>
All entrants who provide a valid email address will be notified about the outcome of their entry by the Monday 31st October 2022.<\/li>
Prize winners will be notified by Monday 31st October 2022 and invited to an awards event in West Cornwall on Saturday 12th November 2022.<\/li>
The prize money (Adult\u2019s competition -1st prize: \u00a31000; 2nd prize: \u00a3500; 3rd prize: \u00a3300. Children\u2019s competition: 1st prize: \u00a3150; 2nd prize: \u00a3100: 3rd prize: \u00a350) will be paid to the winners by 30th November 2022.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
